Aggregate is divided into coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. One of the main constituent materials of concrete. Mainly acts as a skeleton and reduces the volume change due to the shrinkage of the cementitious material during the coagulation and hardening process, and also serves as an inexpensive filler for the gelling material. There are natural aggregate and artificial aggregate of the former, such as gravel, pebbles, pumice, natural sand, etc .; the latter such as cinder, slag, ceramsite, expanded perlite. Particles with a density of less than 1700 kg / m3 are called light aggregates for the manufacture of ordinary concrete; particularly heavy aggregates for the manufacture of heavy concrete such as radiation-resistant concrete.
